A surprising amount of trans/agendered/asexual or basically "people at the far ends of the bell curve" are car enthusiasts in some way shape or form. A friend of mine in college began transitioning I think sometime last year once their westfalia van restoration was finished (side note - subaru engine conversion is the way to go). And another friend who is agendered took in their great uncle's el camino and is still finishing that restoration. Maybe there's some psychological thing to it? Like a car doesn't judge who turns the key or something like that. Or, and I JUST NOW realized that, maybe all of us are too absorbed in our cars to care to judge others......so yeah, we got that going for us. If you've ever skinned your knuckle trying to fish out your only 10mm deep socket to remove the last bolt on a part (you'd be wearing gloves but some dingbat in engineering went 'Yes, this is the exact clearance needed for a future user's hand.......nah, no need to plan for them wearing gloves') then you're one of us.
